The magical Jesolo Sand Nativity makes Christmas even more special

Team Jesolo Sand Nativity

Human hands know how to create great wonders. An example is what happens at every edition of the Jesolo Sand Nativity, an artistic-cultural event that lasts over time and involves the city of our welcoming Hotel Napoleon. Have you ever seen the monumental sand nativity scene with your own eyes? Trust us: the photos don’t do it justice! How about admiring it live?

The story of the sand nativity scene that attracts visitors from all over the world

Jesolo Sand Nativity, which is currently in its 20th edition, was born in 2002 and has grown significantly over the years, both in terms of size and attendance. The Nativity has always been the leitmotif of an event that stages the birth of Christ through the sand.

Another trait that all editions have in common is solidarity: thanks to the free donations of visitors, the organizers have financed important solidarity projects all over the world! Isn’t it incredible that thanks to the Jesolo Sand Nativity, Thailand has a reception center for tsunami orphans, Uganda has new water wells, and Honduras has a Tibetan bridge? These are just some of the many projects that have come to life from the generosity of people.

Pure talent is another additional value of the event. To understand the incredible craftsmanship of the sculptors, you must know that there are many different types of sand: the one of Jesolo is of Dolomite origin, which means its grains have different sizes. Result? It’s harder to assemble.

Can you imagine how much sand they need to create the majestic Jesolo nativity scene? In the days leading up to the event, the expert hands of talented artists work about 1,500 tons!

With this super versatile material, some of the greatest sculptors in the world, including Richard Varano, the artistic director of the Sand Nativity, during the various editions have given life to symbolic representations, such as the Gospel, the stories of the Bible, the theme of refugees, mercy and the Beatitudes.

What about this year? What is the theme of the 20th edition? Keep reading to find out!

Sculptures of Peace, the theme of the Jesolo Sand Nativity 2022

This year, the organizers of the famous Jesolo Sand Nativity decided to launch a universal message of peace. To do so, it has chosen to stage 10 different sculptures made by 14 artists and a blow-up of Pope Francis. The incredibly meticulous details of the works, real sand masterpieces, magnetize visitors.

The inauguration will take place in Piazza Brescia on 8 December at 4:00 pm, and you will have until 5 February 2023 to experience the emotion of a nativity scene that has no equal. If you have participated in at least one edition, you know how much magic this event releases. If, on the other hand, this will be your first time, get ready: first, it will surprise you, then it will bewitch you.

On Christmas, Jesolo is pure magic! Jesolo Sand Nativity is waiting for you!
